Vauxhall Reveals Astra VXR
Vauxhall has revealed its new Astra VXR, which is set to be the fastest production Astra in the firm’s history and one of the most powerful cars in its class. Based on the new Vauxhall Astra GTC’s platform and powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine, it will be capable of a top speed of 155mph.
The VXR model has benefitted from a number of modifications to the chassis to turn it into a high-performance coupe, including specially developed brakes and Vauxhall’s fully adaptive FlexRide system, fitted as standard. FlexRide offers drivers two options – a Sport mode and a VXR mode – so they can customise their ride with different stages of damper, throttle and steering control. A High Performance Strut and limited slip differential have also been implemented to provide excellent grip and traction through bends.
Much of the chassis sign-off was overseen by ‘Smokin’ Jo Winkelhock, the Le Mans 24-hour race winner, at the Northern Loop of the Nürburgring. He said, ““We have devised a great package that will convince even the most experienced and enthusiastic drivers – and not just on the Nürburgring!”
The new Vauxhall Astra VXR is not only set to deliver amazing performance, it looks fantastic too. Specially sculpted front and rear bumpers, side skirts and an aerodynamic roof spoiler give the car a masculine stance, while inside, the cabin has bespoke performance seats, a flat bottomed steering wheel and upgraded instruments.
