Vauxhall will soon be following in the footsteps of other manufacturers with the introduction of a mini-SUV. The compact SUV will be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March and is currently dubbed the ‘Mokka’ by Vauxhall.
The Mokka will be just over four metres long, the same size as a Vauxhall Corsa and will be available in two wheel or four wheel drive, the latter of which is a front wheel drive setup that sends power to the rear wheels . The friendly face of the Mokka looks similar to the new Vauxhall Corsa too, and has a high seating position making for an enjoyable drive.
The design has been described by the manufacturers as “muscular and attractive”, with Vauxhall’s signature ‘blade’ on the body sweeping towards the rear and ‘eagle-eye’ headlights.
The Mokka will initially be available with three different engine options; a 1.6 litre petrol with 116bhp, a 1.4 litre turbo with 138bhp and a 1.7 litre diesel with 127bhp. Vauxhall’s Managing Director, Duncan Aldred, said: “The Mokka takes its design cues from larger SUV’s and integrates them into a compact, yet modern form.” All engines can be fitted with Stop/Start technology and the 1.4 litre turbo and 1.7 litre diesel can be equipped with a six speed manual or automatic gearbox.
Amongst the great features to be found on the new Vauxhall Mokka will be Vauxhall’s Flex Fix bicycle carrier that folds out from under the rear of the car and carries up to three bikes at a time. It will also have adaptive headlights and front – and rear-facing cameras will be offered, the former incorporating a system that alerts the driver if the car drifts over to another lane or passes a speed limit sign. A wealth of safety technologies will also feature, including electronic stability control, traction control, hill decent control and hill start assist.
Although this new Vauxhall car will be compact, it will have an impressive 1,371 litres of load space making it the perfect choice for a family car.
