As part of the criteria for making it into the Top 100 list, featured in print and on the 'Gloucestershire Live' website, companies must be able to demonstrate a positive contribution to the county and a significant amount of their operations must be conducted in Gloucestershire. Baylis, which is one of the largest independently managed motor groups in the region, were ranked in 37th place. Baylis has eight Vauxhall franchises in Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire. In Gloucestershire branches are at Cheltenham, Gloucester, Stroud and Cirencester. Over the past five years, a programme of modernisation and improvement has seen a thorough refurbishment of its showrooms. To prepare for the future of motoring, electric vehicle charging points have now been installed at all sites. The Cirencester branch re-located to new premises in Stratton earlier this year, and in a few months time a stand-alone technologically advanced Accident Repair Centre will open at Corolin Road in Gloucester. Today Baylis has nearly 400 staff, many of whom are long standing employees. The company also invests heavily in employee development and training, and has an apprenticeship programme taking on young people for all departments regularly. The company is always keen to recruit outstanding individuals who are looking to further their careers in the motor trade, and details of current opportunities can be found on the company website. Earlier this year the group were also named as one of the best companies to work for in the UK by ‘Best Companies’ - the organisation which administers the Top 100 Companies lists for the Sunday Times. Only the organisations with the highest level of overall employee engagement qualify for the award. Baylis were ranked the 45th best company to work for in the Midlands, and 56th best on the South West listings. Baylis, who aim to be the retailer of choice for customers and employees, has a policy of‘giving something back’to the communities which its business serves. In addition to sponsorship of local clubs and sports teams, staff hold a number of events throughout the year to raise money for charity and local good causes.
